As a corporate attorney, I’ve spent a significant part of the last 25 years sitting at my desk. For a while I noticed that I couldn’t sit for long without pain, I walked with my head lunged forward and got scared one day when I saw that my right foot would move at an angle when I walked. I even had trouble driving for more than an hour and found myself sitting crooked. While I’m in good shape generally, I realized that If I didn’t start taking better cared of myself at my current age, someday when I retire I’d end up looking like hunchback of Notre Dame! It was time to make my first visit to see a chiropractor. My mother always praised it, but I was skeptical.
I was nervous at first that maybe I’d have some serious problem that couldn’t be fixed, but from the first visit, Dr. Knecht put me at ease. After describing my problems, he set me on a 3 month course to get my spine aligned. Honestly, I was anxious about the adjustments, the massages and the exercises, but day after day I felt really comfortable with all of it, because I felt better afterwards. The neck cracking was bizarre, couldn’t believe the sounds that came from my neck, but the feeling afterwards was amazing. I started to look forward to the adjustments and even the massages which initially were quite intense (as I was really in need).
One of the best things? The entire staff is amazing! They all remember my name and even would remember what I did the week before. Deborah, Lourdes, Kristin, Jeries, Dr. B and Dr. K. I felt that they really cared about me, my needs and my well-being. They got to know me personally, not just as a paying patient, but as a real person with an individual need and personal story to tell. Each time I’d walk in I’d be greeted with a huge Deborah smile and be sent on my way to get treatment.
I didn’t expect a lot of changes right away, I mean you can’t cure 25 years of sitting with a neck crack, but I was a “patient” patient and persevered. After a month I was already feeling more limber. After 2 months people started to ask me If I got taller, as my posture was noticeably better and upright. After 3 months, my right leg was almost walking straight. What I’ve learned most is that this is not a temporary fix, but it’s a lifetime step change. So many people, including me, have neglected their spine, but not anymore! Now that I realize how important it is and how much it makes you feel better, I am determined to listen to my body and maintain a regular visit to Knecht Chiropractic. More than a neighborhood doctor, it’s like visiting a caring family. If anyone askes me whether a chiropractor is helpful, I will surely be there to convince them to give it a try, have patience and go to someone that cares about your well-being. Knecht Chiropractic is that kind of place.
