Boost your immune system to tackle Chicago's weather changes!

With Chicago weather in a constant flux, it can be hard to stay clear of allergies and the common cold. Many people run for Mucinex, Theraflu, or whatever quick-fix they can find over the counter at their local pharmacy. Although these medications may help in the interim, they do not provide as a long-term remedy. We also often find ourselves re-visiting the same medications repeatedly. Dr. B.J. Palmer said it best:

“Have you more faith in a spoonful of medicine than in the power that animated the living world?”

Did you know that regular chiropractic adjustments can help keep our immune system reaching each its optimum functionality? Hearing about a Chiropractor is one thing, but to truly understand what is occurring during your adjustment is another.

Studies have proven that Chiropractic adjustments are directly related to increasing the ability of the body’s immune system. How? Well, if you think about it… it works in the same way as our immune system knowing how to combat illnesses. The communication between the brain and nervous system and the body’s individual organs and antibodies. Together they contribute to our bodies auto-immune response.

Our spinal cord is connected to our brain and controls basic functions like breathing, blood pressure, and body temperature. Each vertebra in our spine is also responsible for an area or organ in the body such as our stomach, heart, lungs, bladder, etc. So, if one or more vertebra is subluxated or displaced in any way our nervous system becomes unable to transmit neurological signals to the appropriate areas int eh body thus resulting pain, discomfort, or another imbalance of some kind such as sickness, breathing issues, headaches, etc. If any of the nerves in our spine become pinched, we have essentially severed the connection between the brain and whatever body part the nerve allowed communication with.

Over the course of 3 years, Dr. Ronald Pero, Chief of Cancer prevention research at New York’s Preventive Medicine Institute and professor of Medicine at New York University, held a study measuring the strength of several individuals’ immune systems with and without chiropractic care.  Patients who followed through with chiropractic care showed a 200% greater Immune Competency than those who did not receive chiropractic care. According to Dr. Pero:

“When applied in a clinical framework, I have never seen a group other than this chiropractic group to experience a 200% increase over the normal patients. This is why it is so dramatically important. We have never seen such a positive improvement in a group”

At Knecht Chiropractic Clinic, located in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, we are always excited to aid in our patients’ exploration of chiropractic care and support their decision to take a leading role in their overall health.
